Darjeeling Police is always here to facilitate your visit to Darjeeling - the Queen of Hills as pleasant, safe and memorable experience. Adequate number of police stuffs are deputed in proper uniform in several places. You can contact nearest police officer/staff to intimate about undesirable elements and touts in your observation. 

 
However, police is taking utmost care, still it is felt that we can eliminate these elements effectively with passengers active participation in the drive. You can help us further by following some tips while touring Darjeeling.
Some Safety Tips for tourists
  • Keep your valuable and important documents including passport secure in hotel in safe deposit box or carry inside jacket box.
  • Never carry large sum of your cash on your purse.
  • Carry your valuable credit cards and cash inside jacket pocket.
  • Make sure that luggage is only given to hotel staff when boarding you reach hotel.
  • Never leave luggage or other expansive items un-attendant at Airport, Rail Stations, Bus/Taxi Stands etc.
  • Be wary of unexpected persons coming to your hotel room. Never open the door to unsolicited room service or maintenance people. Contact the front desk if you have any doubts.
  • If you face any harassment or law and order problem in Darjeeling District, you can dial 100 number from nearest telephone for police assistance.

 Some Do's for tourists

  • Foreign nationals should obtain the required permit from the Immigration authorities soon after they reach India. Visit permitted areas only.
  • Make use of the service of authorized tourist guides.
  • While driving follow the traffic rules, keep left, Carry legal documents like driving license, permit, passport etc.
  • Observe decency and decorum in dress.

Some Don'ts for tourists

  • Foreigners should not enter without required Visa/documents.
  • Do not enter into restricted areas.
  • Do not light fire in forest areas.
  • Do not stay on the forest areas during nights, by putting up own tents / hammocks without permit.
  • Do not drive/swim after consuming liquor.
  • Person who commits breach of any of the conditions of the Wildlife protection shall be punishable as per law.
